The vibe coding setup: what we'd actually use in 2026
Published Oct 23, 2026 · Updated Oct 27, 2026 · Tracked-tool prices from our Oct 21, 2026 snapshot; other prices checked Oct 23, 2026.
Short answer: one AI coding tool you pick with the calculator (not from a "best of" list), an app builder such as Lovable or Bolt if you'd rather describe an app than set up a dev environment, a keyboard launcher to cut friction, cheap static hosting, and a free newsletter tool. You can run the whole thing for the price of your coding plan plus a few dollars, and most layers have a usable free tier.
The stack at a glance
| Layer | What we'd use | Cost to start |
|---|---|---|
| AI coding tool | Your pick, via the calculator | from $8/mo |
| App builder | Lovable or Bolt (see all app builders) | $0 to start |
| Launcher / AI layer | Raycast | $0 (AI from $10/mo) |
| Hosting | Hostinger web hosting (what this site runs on) | promo from $2.49/mo |
| Newsletter | beehiiv (what our newsletter runs on) | $0 |
Prices are USD list prices excluding tax, from each vendor's pricing page on the dates above. Promotional and annual-billing prices are labelled. Always confirm on the vendor's page before buying.
1. The AI coding tool: choose on your workload, not a ranking
This is the one layer that matters, and it is the one we deliberately won't rank. We track 17 tools, and the right one depends on how many agent sessions you run, which models you want, and whether you'd rather pay a flat fee or for usage. 10 of the 12 tools with a priced individual plan start between $10 and $30 a month; heavy-use tiers run to $200.
- Estimate first. Put your real habits into the cost calculator. It compares flat plans, dollar allowances and your own API key side by side.
- Read the limits, not the headline. Most plans now bill in credits, quotas or allowances. Each tool page lists every plan with its source and check date.
- Try before committing. Several tools have a free tier; the open-source agents (Cline, Roo Code & Aider) cost only what you spend on tokens. See model token prices.
Popular pricing pages: Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, Roo Code & Aider. Head-to-heads: Claude Code vs Cursor, Cursor vs GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex vs Claude Code, GitHub Copilot vs Claude Code. Or browse all tools.
2. An app builder for the first version
Browser app builders turn a plain-English description into a working web app you can click through and share, without installing anything. They suit prototypes, MVPs, internal tools and landing pages, and they're the natural starting point if you're a founder, designer or marketer rather than a developer. If a project later grows into a codebase someone edits every day, you can take the code with you into the coding tool above. All of them bill in credits or tokens, so the real cost depends on how much you iterate.
Bolt plans as of Oct 21, 2026: Free $0/mo: 1M tokens/mo, 300K/day; Pro $18/mo: 10M tokens/mo with rollover ($216/yr shown; asterisked price); Teams $27/mo: per member; 10M tokens/member. Usage is metered in tokens, so heavy iteration burns through the allowance; check the Bolt page for limits and sources. Lovable plans as of Oct 27, 2026: Free $0/mo; Pro (100 credits) $25/mo; Business (100 credits) $50/mo. Lovable bills in credits and publishes what typical prompts cost (0.5 to 1.7 credits in its examples), and it can host the app with a database and auth on Lovable Cloud from the same balance. Pro and Business come in tiers up to 10,000 credits a month. Our Lovable pricing and credits guide works through what a prototype, an MVP and a heavy month cost.
Other app builders we track with the same rules: Replit, v0, plus the Lovable vs Bolt comparison and the app builder overview.
3. A launcher as your productivity layer: Raycast
A keyboard launcher removes the small frictions of a vibe coding session: jumping between editor, terminal and browser, pasting the snippet you copied ten minutes ago, snapping windows side by side. We'd use Raycast. Raycast is not an AI coding tool and is not part of our tracked data, rankings or calculator.
- Free for personal use, including built-in extensions such as Clipboard History, Calendar and Window Management, plus the community extension store. Raycast says the Free and Team plans can be used in organizations too.
- Raycast AI (Quick AI, AI Chat, AI Commands, AI Extensions and more) needs a paid plan: Pro $10/month (500 AI credits), Plus $20/month (3,000 credits) or Max $50/month (7,500 credits). Billed annually: $96, $192 or $480 a year. Advanced models are on Plus and Max.
- Eligible new accounts can start a free Pro trial, and verified students get 50% off Pro.
- Honest take: start on Free. Only pay for Raycast AI if you don't already have chat access through your coding plan; many coding plans already include a capable assistant.

4. Hosting and deploy: keep it boring
If your project builds to static files (Astro, Vite, a plain HTML export), hosting is the cheapest layer. Seats & Tokens itself is a static Astro build deployed to Hostinger shared web hosting, so that's what we'd use again. Its hPanel includes SSH and Git integration, and Hostinger also sells separate Node.js and VPS hosting if your app needs a server.
- Web hosting Premium was advertised at $2.49/month on a 48-month term ($119.52 paid upfront), renewing at $10.99/month, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. That is a promotional price; the renewal price is the one to budget for.
- Prefer short commitments? Check the monthly price before buying; long terms are where the discount comes from.

5. A newsletter to keep your users: beehiiv
Once something is live, a mailing list is the cheapest way to bring people back. Our own weekly price-change email runs on beehiiv.
- Free plan: up to 2,500 subscribers, unlimited email sends, a website, API access (excluding the Send API) and the Recommendation Network.
- Paid plans add automations, the ad network and paid subscriptions. At up to 1,000 subscribers, Lite is $59/month monthly or $49/month billed annually; Pro is $109/month or $95/month billed annually. Prices rise with list size.
- beehiiv says it takes 0% of paid subscription revenue (you still pay Stripe's processing fees).

What it costs per month
- Lean: a coding tool from $8/month, plus Raycast Free, beehiiv Free and Hostinger's promotional hosting price.
- Comfortable: a $20-class coding plan, Raycast Pro ($10) only if you want its AI, hosting at its renewal price ($10.99), beehiiv Free until you pass 2,500 subscribers.
- The coding tool dominates the bill. If it's heavy use, run the calculator before upgrading anything else.
What we'd skip
- Paying for two AI chat subscriptions that do the same job.
- Annual commitments before you've used a tool for a few weeks.
- Buying a high app-builder credit tier before you've measured how many credits a normal week of building uses.
